Two days after welcoming a baby boy, 31-year-old Carla Murphy of Altoona, Pa., smoked bath salts and attacked the maternity ward staff at Altoona Regional Hospital.

The Daily Mail reports that on June 17, the new mom was found sweating and "acting aggressively" by nurses, and was then found naked and rolling around on the shower floor.

According to the Altoona Mirror, police were called after hospital staff reported Murphy to be "shouting, cursing and being aggressive with several nurses."

The woman appeared to be "confused," and was unable to answer basic questions asked by staff.

Murphy gave permission to police to search her belongings, where authorities found a dismantled black pen with residue of a substance inside. Police also discovered a package of "Disco" with white substance inside and a lighter in her possession. The Altoona Mirror reports that the new mom told police the white substance was "Disco," a brand of bath salts.

The situation at the hospital became more bizarre, as staff administered an anti-psychotic drug to no effect. Instead of remaining in her room as requested, Murphy started swinging her fists and attempted to escape her room. The struggle ended up with Murphy punching a nurse, and striking, kicking and trying to bite an officer.

Carla Murphy was then handcuffed and arrested. The fight with Murphy continued as nurses tried to dress her. According to the Daily Mail, the woman kicked a nurse in the chest, but eventually fell asleep when the drug she had been administered kicked in.

Police later visited Murphy's home to see the conditions where the newborn would be living. After gaining permission to search the home from Murphy's live-in boyfriend, Michael W. Stewart, police discovered a wide range of drug paraphernalia. According to the Altoona Mirror, needles, aluminum foil, Blizzard containers (illegal stimulant MDPV), and broken glass bottles with brown residue were all found within the couples bedroom.

Stewart, along with his girlfriend, will face charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. Murphy also faces a slew of other charges, including aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, harassment and felony possession of a designer drug.

The Associated Press reports that Carla Murphy will face a preliminary hearing on Aug. 8.

Custody of Murphy's newborn son is unknown.
