Google has come up with a colourful doodle to mark the London Olympics 2012 closing ceremony. It is the seventeenth doodle and apparently the last in a series for the London Games.

The homepage shows athletes from different disciplines celebrating the last day of the biggest sporting event in the world against a green background.

The closing ceremony of the Games is expected to be as spectacular as the opening celebration. The 150-minute ceremony - A Symphony of British Music - will showcase a series of performances by a number of present and former British pop and rock artists and bands.

The Spice Girls, Muse, The Who, Annie Lennox, George Michael and Ed Sheeran are expected to perform at the event, which will be a celebration of the past 50 years of popular music, one of Britain's biggest exports to the world.

The closing ceremony will also show highlights of the London Olympics 2012. This will be followed by an athletes' parade, the medal ceremony for the men's marathon winners, speeches and a presentation by the next host city, Rio de Janeiro.

The Olympic flame, which remains lit during the Games, will be extinguished. It will blaze next in Russia, at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014.
