Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres scored a goal apiece against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, assuring Chelsea FC a great start to the season with three consecutive wins. Chelsea won the match 2-0.
Belgian winger Eden Hazard was a hazard to the opponents again on Saturday, opening his account for his new team Chelsea by converting a penalty in the 22nd minute after fellow teammate Fernando Torres was brought down inside the box by Newcastle's Vurnon Anita. He took the spot kick as usual penalty taker Frank Lampard was on the bench.
It was Hazard's 24th goal in the last 17 matches.
Fernando Torres scored the second goal in first half stoppage time, beautifully executing Hazard's pass into the top right of the net. Again, it was the in-form Belgian winger who set up the pass for the second goal.
Despite team captain John Terry out of play due to injury and Frank Lampard warming the bench, Chelsea dominated the game against the good Newcastle side.
Chelsea had chance to score in the first quarter of the game with John Obi Mikel sending the ball high and Hazard gave Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul an easy catch with a straight shot. Then Ryan Bertrand missed a good chance from Torres' pass.
Newcastle tried to come back into the game in the second half but couldn't find the net.
With the win against Newcastle on Saturday, Chelsea has consolidated its lead in the Premier League table. It's their third consecutive win, defeating Wigan Athletic in the opening game and later Reading.
Chelsea will now play Atletico Madrid on Saturday, September 1.
