Johnny Depp And ‘Pirates of The Caribbean 5’ Film Crew Set To Sail In Puerto Rico? [PHOTOS]

Walt Disney's fifth "Pirates of The Carribbean" film in development is no longer a surprise since the fourth installment, "On Stranger Tides," had popularly grossed over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. What could be surprising though is the filming location.

Caribbean Business via The Film Stage reportedly claimed that the studio has selected Puerto Rico as the location to build up the majority of the upcoming movie production.

The billion-dollar blockbuster hit movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" was released in May 2011 and it was directed by Rob Marshall which starred Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Kevin R. McNally, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Sam Claflin and Geoffrey Rush. Some of the scenes in the movie were filmed in Puerto Rico and the entire movie franchise has been filmed in Hawaii.

"Disney just confirmed that they have picked Puerto Rico over Hawaii," Puerto Rico Film Commission Executive Director Mariella Pérez revealed. It was also revealed that the filming is expected to begin in November. Over the years, additional scenes for the movie have been filmed with locations in Dominica, the Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Dominican Republic and Tortuga.

Meanwhile, Puerto Rico's Governor Luis Fortuno reportedly said in July that the additional tax breaks would make Puerto Rico among the most attractive locations for the film production crews. The incentives provide the film studio tax credits for the money spent on non-resident actors, writers, directors and associated talent.

On the other hand, previous legislation had already created tax credits for employing the Puerto Rican residents and it increased the benefits for the United States territory. Fortuno also said that the incentives in place since March 2011 had resulted in about 30 TV or movie productions being filmed in the island and it generated about US$80million in investment.

This includes the television episodes for Showtime's "The Big C" as well as the movie "Runner, Runner" which stars Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake. However, it is most likely believed that none of those productions can compare to the potential success of the much anticipated swashbuckling "Pirates of The Caribbean" film.
