Seifert had been disappointed since AMD's board passed him over for the job of CEO in August last year, a company source said.

Siefert had acted as the chipmaker's interim CEO for nine months before the board appointed Rory Read permanently.

Devinder Kumar, senior vice president and corporate controller, will serve as AMD's temporary CFO until a replacement is found.

Siefert will stay on through September 28, AMD said.
