Arsenal’s Injury Plagued Midfielder Wanted by Wolves

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Wolverhampton Wanderers are once again interested in signing Emmanuel Frimpong on-loan.

The Championship club agreed a sixth-month loan deal for Frimpong in January of this year and he was due to remain with the club until the end of the season as they looked to avoid relegation.

The defensive midfielder played five league games for the club before rupturing his cruciate ligament in the 2-1 win over QPR and subsequently being ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Frimpong worked hard over the summer and has now returned to the first team, making his comeback in the Capital One Cup victory over Coventry last month.

Wenger was asked whether Frimpong would be pushing for first team action or whether he would be sent out on loan in order to get his match fitness back.

"I do not know yet. He needs to play, so before we envisage that, he needs to play games. He is not ready yet," Wenger told the Arsenal website. "I have heard of Wolves' interest, but at the moment I feel he needs to get back to a competitive edge before we plan anything for him."

Arsenal are struggling for defensive players in midfield after allowing Alex Song to join Barcelona in the summer, while Abou Diaby has consistently struggled with injuries and has once again been sidelined.

Frimpong has been on the verge of the Arsenal first team on a number of occasions but has been unfortunate with the injuries he has picked up.

In the summer of 2010 the midfielder impressed during pre-season only to pick up an anterior cruciate injury which ruled him out for nine months.

He has made six appearance in the Arsenal first team and will be hoping that he can steer clear of further injuries so that he can push for regular first team football.
