Price of Microsoft Office 2011 will be less than Office 2008 by 20 percent to 50 percent when it hits the retail stores.

The company plans to release Microsoft Office 2011 in the end of October in two editions—a Mac Home and Student version and a Mac Home and Business offering.

Student version is priced at $119 for a single license and $149 for a family pack which can be installed on three Macs. It includes the Word, PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheet, and Messenger IM applications.

Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 is priced at $199 for a single license and $279 for a multi-pack that permits two installs on two machines. It includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Messenger, and Outlook for the Mac. A major change in 2011 edition is replacement of Entourage with Outlook for Office’s mail client.

Office 2008 was offered at $149 for the Home and Student edition and $399 for Mac Business edition.

Besides, Office 2011 will also come as academic version priced at $99, available only to higher-education students, staff, and faculty. It includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Messenger.
