Manchester United have reportedly reignited interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Poland international's contract with the Bundesliga champions will run out in 2014 and negotiations over a new deal have stalled. The Red Devils were heavily linked with the 24-year-old throughout the summer but their interest cooled when Robin van Persie became available. However, Sir Alex Ferguson remains an admirer of the Pole and, according to the Daily Mirror, the Scot has now asked to be kept informed of the situation.

Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke recently revealed the club would be open to the sale of Lewandowski next summer, if he did not extend his contract by the end of the season, in order to profit from what would be a considerable transfer fee for the former Lech Poznan star.

Lewandowski, who scored 30 goals in 47 appearances for Dortmund last season, has continued his good form this term as well, by notching eight goals from 17 games so far.

Ferguson Hails United Spirit

Meanwhile, Ferguson has showered praises on United's team spirit following their 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

The leaders staged an impressive comeback from two goals down to secure the win at Villa Park, thanks to a brace from substitute Javier Hernandez. And the manager has expressed his delight at the determination shown by his side.

"Absolutely magnificent result for us, it is a magnificent game I must say that. Aston Villa have done fantastic, they have run their socks off, and you have to feel sorry for them the effort they put in, but we never gave in and hit the bar twice in the second half, but once we got the second goal we came alive and it was a fantastic game," Sky Sports quoted Ferguson as saying.

"We have put pressure on ourselves but we came through it and that is a lesson that we really need to be better in defence. You admire the tenacity of the performance when they need to do it, they do it and the attacking play was terrific at times," he added.
