Miranda Kerr and Other Angels to Leave Victoria’s Secret?

Rumors claimed that Miranda Kerr and other Victoria's Secret are leaving the lingerie brand.

This speculation emerged after the underwear giant was included in the list of textile companies using toxic chemicals on its products based on the investigation of environmental group Greenpeace.

Victoria's Secret was named in the investigative report "Toxic Threads: The Big Fashion Stitch Up," as one of 20 lingerie brands where chemical residue was found in its clothing.

Victoria's Secret gained immense popularity for casting supermodels turned into "angels" who walk the glittery catwalk every year for the company's cabaret-like fashion show.

However, due to the report, the company may lose some of its pride angels. Aussie supermodel Miranda Kerr is an advocate of the environment and owns an organic skincare brand Kora Organics.

Other angels who also call for cleaner and greener environment may turn its back on the company if it ignores Greenpeace's campaign in putting an end to the use of toxic chemicals in the production of lingerie.

Chemicals were removed from Victoria's Secret range of beauty products in 2003, but they are still used to make lingerie.  According to an earlier report from Greenpeace, the products are said to be carcinogenic when it comes into contact with skin.

"We found high levels of phthalates in the Victoria's Secrets garments. If that product was a toy it would not be permitted in the EU. We need to replace these chemicals with safer substitutes. The textile industry is one of the biggest polluters and we are asking brands to remove these chemicals from their supply chain," Greenpeace spokesman Martin Hojsik said.

In 2008, the company faced a number of lawsuits from women who claimed to suffer from severe rashes and scarring after wearing bras contaminated with formaldehyde.

Victoria's Secret has not yet commented on the report.

On the other hand, Miranda Kerr replaced high profile supermodel Kate Moss in being the face of Mango and will star its spring/summer 2013 campaign. Full details of Mango's collection are yet to be released but the brand has unveiled two teaser images showing the model during their shoot in New York earlier this month.
