Earthquake of Magnitude 7.3 Hits Japan Northeast Coast

An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 struck the east coast of Japan on Friday. No causalities or damage were immediately reported.

According to the U.S. Geological survey (USGS), the earthqauke struck 36 kmilometeres under the ocean near Sendai, Honshu at 08:18:24 UTC.

A Tsunami alert for the coast of Miyagi Prefecture was issued. Local reports said that buildings in Tokyo shook for a few minutes.
