Lilly Allen has revealed that she mistook passing wind for labour pains.

The 27-year-old singer, who is pregnant with her second child by husband Sam Cooper, shared the blunder with fans on Twitter.

Allen admitted that she believed that the baby was on its way - only for her labour-style pains to go after she broke wind.

She told her 3.9 million followers: "I thought I was in labour but I just needed to fart. #YOLO Excellent."

The brunette star, mother to 13-month-old daughter Ethel, is due to give birth within the next few weeks.

The Smile hitmaker, who released her last album It's Not Me It's You in 2009 before announcing her retirement from pop, hinted in 2012 that she planned to make a musical comeback.

Not only did she provide a guest verse for the track True Love on Pink's The Truth about Love album but London-born Allen also revealed that she had been working in the studio with long-term collaborator Greg Kurstin.

She recently quipped that she was looking forward to only spending "a few days" of this year pregnant.

On New Year's Eve she tweeted: "2013 is gonna be big. I'm only planning on spending a few days of it pregnant. Unlike the last 3 years."
