The Japanese manufacturer has not too many details of the event. The text in the email simply reads: "The extraordinary is coming."
However, Engadget now reports a press photograph of the Xperia Z has been leaked. The photo comes from an anonymous source, who claims to have spotted the device in Sony's CES booth at the Las Vegas convention center.
Rumours suggest the Xperia Z will have a 5in HD display supported by the Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2 and a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch (ppi); the iPhone 5, with a Retina Display, has only 326 ppi.
The device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 chip, featuring a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and the Adreno 320 graphics unit. The device will have of 2GB of RAM. The handset could have a 13 megapixel Exmor RS camera and come with 16GB of internal storage. It is also expected to support a microSDXC card slot, for expansion up to 128GB.
The phone is likely to run on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and offer Wi-Fi a/g/b/n and Bluetooth v4.0, as well as Near Field Communication (NFC) and LTE compatibility.
A GSM Arena leak suggests the Xperia Z will be both waterproof and dustproof and will come in three colours - purple, white and black.
