CES 2013: Sony Xperia Z UK Price and Release Date Revealed

Phones 4u confirms the Sony Xperia Z will be available from 1 March

Although Sony is yet to reveal price details for the Xperia Z - which was unveiled at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), two UK retailers have confirmed some details.

Phones4U have confirmed the Xperia Z will be available, in stores, from 1 March. Interested customers are being asked to register on their Web site for further details.

Clove UK has revealed a 16GB SIM free Xperia Z (SNY-XPZ) is available for pre-order at £528, including Value Added Taxes (VAT). There are two colour options - black and white. Stocks are reportedly due on 1 March, which accords with Phones4U's statement.

Other UK retailers are yet to make any announcement.

The Xperia Z features a 5in full HD Reality display powered by the second generation Mobile Bravia Engine. The resolution of the display is 1080 x 1920 pixels with pixel density of 443 pixels per inch (ppi).

The handset will be shipped with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) but Sony has promised an upgrade to Android 4.2 shortly after the launch.  

The Xperia Z features a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with Exmor RS sensor; Sony claims this is the world's first image sensor with High Definition (HDR) video for smartphones. The smartphone also carries a 2.2 megapixel front-facing camera. Both cameras are capable of capturing 1080p video.

The smartphone runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip featuring a quad-core krait processor with each core running at clock speeds of 1.5GHz. The chip is paired with an Adreno 320 graphics unit and the device has 2GB of RAM. The Xperia Z is Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled and also offers 4G LTE network connectivity. Apart from all of this, Sony also claims the device is water and dust resistant.
