Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processors
Though smartphones are not at the forefront of this edition of Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, companies that have launched new handsets have shown that mobile technology for 2013 will be faster, smoother and feature a massive display.
Sony Xperia Z and ZL
Sony launched two new smartphones - Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, sporting a 5 inch 1080p HD Reality Display powered by Mobile Bravia Engine 2. Both handsets offer impressive 13-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor, enhanced battery life, one-touch Near Field Communication (NFC) for quick and easy connection with wireless devices for sharing and enjoying music, videos, photos as well as documents.
Both Sony's Xperia handsets are remarkably constructed, powered with Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad Core processor at a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and operate on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
In addition, Xperia Z comes with waterproof and dustproof capabilities to a depth of one meter up to 30 minutes underwater. However, the Xperia ZL is not water-resistant like Xperia Z.
Huawei Ascend Mate
Chinese technology giant, Huawei announced the world's largest screen smartphone with massive 6.1 inch HD IPS + LCD display at a resolution of 1290 X 720 pixels. The Huawei Ascend Mate is powered by 1.5GHz Hi-Silicon Quad Core processor and operates on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
It comes with a huge 4050 mAh battery along with its very own Quick Power Control (QPC) and Automated Discontinuous Reception (ADRX) smart power saving technology, which the company claims to provide up to 48 hours of battery life on a single charge.
Furthermore, it features an 8.0 megapixel autofocus rear camera, 1.0 megapixel front-facing camera, dual MIC with noise reduction technology, Dolby sound system as well as stereo recording.
Lenovo announced the K900, the first smartphone to use new Intel Atom Z2580 Dual Core mobile processor (codenamed Clover Trail+) at a clock speed of 2 GHz.
The K900 sports a 5.5 inch 1080p IPS display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and comes in a sleek 6.9 mm wide stainless steel and polycarbonate unibody design.
It also boasts 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and Sony Exmor backside illuminated sensor for excellent low-light imaging capabilities and has a 2-megapixel front facing camera with 88 degree super wide viewing angle.
ZTE Grand S
The ZTE Grand S is a beautifully designed smartphone. With just 6.9 mm thickness it is said to be the thinnest LTE smartphones. The Grand S is packed with 5 inch HD display with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels; 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and 16GB built-in storage.
It is powered with Snapdragon Quad Core S4 Pro processor at a clock speed of 1.7GHz paired with 2GB of RAM and operates on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
Samsung Ativ Odyssey
Samsung Ativ Odyssey finally made its official appearance at CES 2013. The device debuted in October 2012 during the Windows 8 launch event. It is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 Dual Core processor at 1.5 GHz clock speed paired with 1GB of RAM and operates on Window 8 OS.
The Ativ Odyssey features a 4.0 inch super AMOLED WVGA display at a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels, 5-megapixel rear camera, and 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera; along with NFC support as well as a 2100 mAh battery.
The Pantech Discover is described as a $50 Galaxy S3 by The Verge. The device features many similar specifications as Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone.
The Discover is powered by a Dual Core processor at 1.5 GHz clock speed, operates on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, sports 4.8 inch display with 1280 X 720 pixels resolution, 12.6 megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording and also supports 4G LTE network.
Furthermore, it features NFC, dual 3D surround sound speakers and 16GB built-in storage.
Alcatel One Touch Scribe X
Alcatel announced no less than seven Android smartphones and three tablets at CES 2013. The Alcatel One Touch Scribe X along with One Touch Scribe HD-LTE is the first smartphone to power with Mediatek MT6589 Quad Core processor at a clock speed of 1.4GHz.
It boasts 5-inch full 1080p HD display, 12 megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full 1080p HD video recording as well as a HD 720p capable front-facing camera.
