Morrissey has been hospitalized in Michigan.
Morrissey has been hospitalized in Royal Oak, Mich., “where he is undergoing tests for a suspected bladder infection,” one of his representatives told Billboard.
The singer, who has been in the public eye since fronting The Smiths in the 1980s, has canceled a concert in Flint, Mich., and postponed shows in Minneapolis and Chicago. At this point, Morrissey’s website indicates his current tour is scheduled to resume Jan. 28 at The Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C.
Tickets to the Flint show had automatically been refunded, although fans will be extra disappointed because the concert already had to be rescheduled after Morrissey left to take care of his ailing mother last October.
Morrissey embarked on a successful solo career following the breakup of The Smiths in 1987, when the alternative-rock group disbanded because of a feud between the singer and the guitarist Johnny Marr. Before then, though, they released such landmark albums as “Meat Is Murder” and “The Queen Is Dead.”

Morrissey is frequently lambasted for making music that is almost exclusively downtrodden and hopeless, but former Smiths member Mike Joyce told the Toronto Sun he’d love working with the band again.
“It would sound great. I’m a better player than I was,” Joyce said. “Morrissey’s voice is still incredible; Johnny is playing great. With the equipment and PA systems 30 years on, if we got up and played, it would sound incredible.”
