Tottenham Hotspur are considering a £20m bid for International striker Leandro Damiao during this transfer window, according to Daily Star. The 23-year-old has been in impressive form for the Brazilian club this season, netting 17 times and managing five assists in 32 appearances.

The striker's current contract runs down in 2015. Spurs were interested in signing Damiao during the summer as they made a bid for the striker, which was rejected by the Brazilian outfit.

The north London club has Jermain Defoe as the only senior striker up front in the absence of Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who is currently representing his country at the Africa Cup of Nations. However, the England international picked up an injury before Spurs' FA Cup defeat against Leeds United and the Daily Mail reports the hitman is likely to undergo pelvic surgery.

With their latest defeat against Leeds and the absence of Adebayor, the addition of the Damiao would strengthen their squad in order to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season. In addition to this, Andre Villas-Boas had earlier admitted his interest in bringing Damiao to White Hart Lane as the manager feels the striker fits in their profile.

However, Villas Boas is sea-sawing with his decision on whether to bring in the striker in January. The 35-year-old manager earlier hinted of signing a striker in the current transfer window but later backtracked, and went on to say the club would risk not signing a forward during the winter.

The north London club are currently fourth in the Premier League table with 41 points from 23 games. Should Villas-Boas not sign a striker this month and with Defoe likely to be out of action with his injury, Spurs could face the similar situation as that of the second half of the last season, which saw the club winning just four out of their last 13 league games.

Meanwhile, the same report also suggests Spurs are also monitoring Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo as an alternate option, if the deal for Damiao fail again.
