‘Vishwaroop’ Box Office Collection Touches ₹8 Crore in India

Tamil Nadu Associations to Boycott Screening of Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam

The Hindi version of Kamal Haasan's "Vishwaroop" has passed the first weekday test with flying colours at the domestic box office. The spy thriller was released in Hindi on Feb 1 in North India.

The movie in its first weekday registered less than 50 percent fall in India. It collected approximately ₹1.25 crore on Monday, taking the four days total to ₹8.9 crore.

The four-day break up of the film is: Friday ₹1.89 crore, Saturday ₹2.47 crore, Sunday ₹3.29 crore and Monday ₹1.25 crore approximately, according to trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.

Initially, the film opened to a dull response but picked up later in the evening. It also witnessed a 20 to 30 percent rise in collections on Saturday and Sunday.

The Hindi version was released across 1,000 screens in up north. Kamal, who played the lead character in the film, said that he is pleased with the audience response.

"I am extremely happy with the response my film has received in north India," the actor said on Saturday, according to IANS.

The 58-year-old actor has breathed a sigh of relief after the legal controversies surrounding "Vishwaroop" came to an end. The ban on his film was lifted in Tamil Nadu and the film is set to hit the screens on Thursday in the state.

"Vishwaroopam" is a trilingual film released in three versions - Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The ₹95-crore budget film was directed and co-produced by Kamal Haasan. Among the other members of the cast are Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose, Andrea Jeremiah and Jaideep Ahlawat.
