Microsoft said Tuesday that Bing is now powering the Yahoo search engines in the U.S. and Canada.

Satya Nadella, senior vice president for Microsoft's Online Services Division, revealed the smooth transition of the two firm's search engines in her blog.

Nadella said only English searches are supported for now but searches in other languages will be covered in the following weeks and months.

The two firms started testing the Bing-powered Yahoo in July.

The search alliance forged in July 2009 will also see Microsoft and Yahoo sharing online advertising revenues, with the latter leading the sales, over the next 10 years.

Nadella assured advertisers of a smooth transition that will be completed by year's end.

As of July, the U.S. search engine traffic is largely handled by Google or 66 percent of the market, according to research firm comScore. Yahoo had 17 percent while Microsoft had 11 percent market shares.

Now that Yahoo and Microsoft searches are combined, one second-place player emerged with a 28 percent market share, though still far behind Google in terms of search traffic.
