Tottenham Hotspur will be paying close attention to the Championship play-off final as they consider a summer move for Watford's in-form striker Matej Vydra.

The Czech Republic international has fired 22 goals for Watford this season, but few have been as important as the double he registered in the 3-2 aggregate win against Leicester in the play-off semi-final at Vicarage Road.

Vydra's superb brace helped Watford secure their place at Wembley where they will play Crystal Palace for a chance to play in the Premier League next season. However, should Gianfranco Zola's men fall at the final hurdle then Tottenham are reportedly waiting in the wings to snap up the prolific striker.

Spurs have just two senior strikers on their books and despite Emmanuel Adebayor beginning to show signs of his best form, there is a belief that Andre Villas-Boas will sign another striker to help ease the burden on Jermain Defoe.

The Evening Standard reports that Vydra is determined to test himself at the highest level and would consider leaving Watford, where he is currently on a season long loan, in order to play in the Premier League.

Vydra is owned by Udinese but there is a feeling that he would struggle to force his way into the first team if he returned to the Italian side as Colombian forward Luis Muriel has impressed with 10 league goals this season.

A slight complication in the deal is the fact that the Pozzo family own both Udinese and Watford, which made his loan move to Vicarage Road fairly easy to complete.

However, should Tottenham decide to pursue their interest then they would have to convince the Pozzo family to part with the 21 year old. The Standard believes that they would also look for a much higher figure than the £5m that had been mentioned as a possible figure for Watford to pay for the striker.

Vydra has certainly shown his ability while playing in England and it is little surprise that his goal scoring exploits have not gone unnoticed by the likes of Tottenham and Fulham.

Should Spurs manage to secure a place in the Champions League next season then they would perhaps stand a better chance of convincing Vydra to make the move to White Hart Lane, even if Watford did secure promotion to the Premier League.
