Google's Nexus branded 10in tablet, known as Nexus 10, was first launched with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software and was later upgraded to Android 4.2.2 version.

Nexus 10 users who have updated their devices to Android 4.2.2, will now be able to root the same using the CF-Auto-Root file released by recognised XDA developer Chainfire.

The CF-Auto-Root method is said to be the safest root procedure available until date. The primary feature of the root package is it is firmware independent. Pre-requisites

1) As the tutorial is likely to wipe out all data of the tablet, create a backup. If the device is having any custom recoveries such as ClockworkMod/TWRP already installed, then back up data using the recovery.

2) Enable USB Debugging Mode on the phone to connect the Android device with the computer and use the Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and ensure the USB Debugging Mode is turned on.]

4) Verify that the tablet should have above 80 per cent of charge.

5) The bootloader of Nexus 10 should be unlocked.

6) The tablet should be factory unlocked and not locked to a particular carrier.

7) The device will lose its manufacturer's warranty once it is rooted. But users can reclaim the warranty by unrooting the device later.

8) As the CF-Auto-Root file is compatible only with Google Nexus 10, installing it on any incorrect variant might brick the device.

Steps to root Nexus 10 on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

Step-1: Download and install Android SDK from Android Developers site. The package includes necessary drivers for connecting the Nexus device with the computer which is mandatory for the rooting process

Step-2: Download CF-Auto-Root for Nexus 10. Extract the root zip file using winrar/7zip/winzip or any other extracting tool

File name: CF-Auto-Root-manta-mantaray-nexus10.zip

Step-3: Power off the Nexus 10. Then boot the device into fastboot mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons together for some time

Step-4: Plug in the USB cable to the Nexus tablet to connect it with computer. Wait for some time until Widows finishes installing the drivers

Step-5: Navigate to the folder where the CF-Auto-Root files are extracted, then run the following command

Windows users: Run root-windows.bat

Linux users: chmod +x root-linux.sh

Run root-linux.sh

Mac OS X: chmod +x root-mac.sh

Run root-mac.sh

Step-6: Follow the on-screen instructions for further steps to root the device. Also, keep watching both the tablet and the computer

Step-7: Once the rooting procedure is completed, the tablet will boot into normal mode. Now unplug the USB cable from the tablet to disconnect it from the computer

The Nexus 10 running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is now rooted successfully. Open the app drawer of the device and look for an app called SuperSU. Also, to verify the root status, install Root Checker app from Google Play Store.

Note: Sometimes the red Android logo during rooting appears but SuperSU does not. This happens due to left-over files and settings. However, users can directly install SuperSU from Google Play.
