Iago Aspas
Iago Aspas is very close to joining Liverpool, undergoing a medical at the club.

Liverpool only need to complete the formalities on the signing of Iago Aspas, according to numerous sources, with the striker set for a medical with the club today.

Aspas has impressed in La Liga with his 12 goals contributing to Celta Vigo's fight to stay in the top flight, as the side eventually finished 17th in the 2012-13 season.

The Reds have been looking at building on their attacking line-up, and could consider a big name striker as Luis Suarez continues to discuss the possibility of leaving the club this summer.

Aspas has widely been considered a top target for the club, and BBC Sport claim that he is currently undergoing a medical with Liverpool as the club edge closer to confirming a deal for the 25 year old to make the move to England.

The signing will cost the club around £7m, and with Rodgers hoping to offload Andy Carroll to West Ham in the coming weeks, he would still be in the plus after agreeing to take Kolo Toure on a free transfer on July 1st.

Liverpool are said to have accepted a £15m bid from West Ham for Carroll, but the striker has so far failed to agree personal terms with the club, reportedly demanding wages of around £100,000 per week.

Carroll's transfer money would be a good boost for the Reds, who appear to have tightened the purse strings under Rodgers after handing Kenny Dalglish over £100m to spend in the 2011-12 season.

Last summer Rodgers failed to land a striker before deadline day came to a close, after letting Carroll go on a season-long loan to West Ham. But this time around he appears to have learnt from his mistakes, and is working to make sure deals are underway from the second the transfer window opens.
