While Apple says iOS 7 will be available to most new devices, all features won't be available to everyone; here's our guide to what you'll get when iOS 7 is finally released in the autumn.

iOS 7

Firstly, iOS 7 can be installed on the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, as well as the iPad 2, iPad 3 with Retina display, iPad 4 with Retina display and the iPad mini. Finally, iOS 7 will also work on the fifth-generation iPod touch. All other devices will have to stick with iOS 6.

With all of these compatible devices the user will get new icons and Jony Ive's controversial 'flat' design, along with the new Notification and Control centres, the fancy new animations, and updated folder actions, but some new features are limited to specific models.

Camera

The camera application has seen a number of updates with iOS 7. First seen in iOS 6 last year, the ability to take wide panoramic photos will be available to the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod touch - but not the iPads - while the new Instagram-style square image capture works on all devices capable of running iOS 7.

The new Live Filters - again, similar to Instagram - will only be compatible with the extra processing power of the iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod touch; older models and all iPads miss out here, suggesting Apple isn't willing to push its tablets as creditable photography devices.

Photo app filters

Adding to iOS 7's photography credentials, the Photos app includes the ability to apply filters to photos, panoramic shots and videos after they've been taken. There's also auto-enhance, rotate, red-eye correct, crop and share options. Filters applied after photos and video are taken will work with the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, as well as the fifth-generation iPod touch, and the iPad 3, 4 and mini.

iTunes Radio

Launched as a rival to the growing popularity of Spotify, Pandora and Google's Play All Access music service, iTunes Radio lets users listen to custom radio stations on their iOS device for free, so long as they listen to the occasional advert.

iTunes Radio is compatible with all iOS 7 devices, so that's the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, the iPad 2, 3, 4 and mini, and the fifth-generation iPod touch. Unfortunately, iTunes Radio will only be available to US customers at launch, but we hope this will change once Apple secures licensing deals with record labels for the UK and Europe.

AirDrop

Ported over from Apple's desktop range, AirDrop lets users quickly and easily share files with their friends over a secure Wi-Fi connection between devices. Files can also be shared with Macs running OS X 10.7 or later.

AirDrop will come with iOS 7, but will only work with the iPhone 5, fourth-generation iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, and fifth-generation iPod touch.

Siri

Now more intelligent and sounding more natural than before, Siri also receives an overhaul with iOS 7, but the personal assistant is still only compatible with a handful of Apple devices, and is yet to arrive on the Mac.

Siri for iOS 7 will work with the iPhone 4S and 5 (only the older 4 misses out), the iPad 3, 4 and mini, and the fifth-generation iPod touch.

Finally, the new, more natural sounding voices will only be available in US English, French and German at launch, with more languages added at a later date.
