Police have arrested a man who ran through the streets armed with a gun after robbing a bank in south-east London.
Witnesses described seeing the man running with what appeared to be an AK47 before entering a pub in Borough High Street, near London Bridge
Police were called following reports of an armed robbery at a Barclays bank. Witnesses then described how the suspect ran through the nearby George pub.
Darren Burn, an ITN news producer who was at the scene, tweeted: "I'm not exaggerating when I say myself, Samuel Whiston and my uncle just had to get on the floor as a gunman run through the pub we're in the George pub in Borough and black man with a gun that looked like an AK47 run through. Men chasing him shouting 'get down he has a gun'.
"Never had to get down on floor before. Whole moment surreal and I didn't react fast enough. Samuel and my uncle hit the floor.
"Called the cops but they're still not here. Gunman was carrying gun with a Sports Direct bag in tow.
"Three armed police now arrived and pursuing suspect."
A second eyewitness who was near the bank told LBC 97.3: "The security was saying 'get down, he's got a gun, he's got a gun', everybody started getting down.
"As soon as he came out he started running towards Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital near London Bridge Station.
"There was panic because he was holding a black bag in one hand and the gun in the other."
The bank involved in the robbery has been closed for the rest of the day.
A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm police were called on Thursday 25 July at approximately 13:47hrs to reports of an armed robbery at a bank in Borough High Street, SE1.
"A man has been arrested and taken to a south London police station. No further details at this early stage."
The incident is due to be dealt with by the Met's Flying Squad.
