Overview

England will field a changed side from the one that dominated Michael Clarke and his men in the five-match Test series. Eoin Morgan will take over as captain from Alastair Cook, who is rested. A number of T20 players from the Friends Life t20 (Flt20) and Yorkshire Bank 40 series have been called up, with Michael Carberry leading that list; he scored over 500 runs for Hampshire.

All-rounder Ravi Bopara is also in the squad and will be eager to re-establish his position as an England regular, particularly with the Ashes tour of Australia later this year. James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and Ian Bell join Cook on the sidelines, while pace bowlers Chris Jordan and Jamie Overton are set to make their senior debuts. Gary Ballance and Boyd Rankin have also been called up.

Meanwhile, England have been forced to apologise for inappropriate behaviour following the drawn Test at The Oval. Bad light forced umpires to call off the match with England needing only 21 runs to win and in the aftermath of the 3-0 triumph Australian journalists accused some of the England players over being overly enthusiastic in their celebrations.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have since released a statement: "We got carried away amongst the euphoria of winning such a prestigious series and accept some of our behaviour was inappropriate. If that has caused any offence to anyone, we apologise."

On the other side of the fence, the Australians will be eager to salvage some measure of pride after a disastrous Ashes tour. However, T20s are unlikely to provide much comfort, given the visitors have been in poor form in this format, winning only five of the previous 19 games.

George Bailey will resume captaincy of Australia for the short version of the game. Adam Voges enjoyed good form with Middlesex during the Flt20 and the Aussies can also call on Fawad Ahmed to take the pace off the ball. Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh are also available, with the latter two fighting for the No 3 slot. Maxwell, Finch and Marsh all played reasonably well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year and will provide fresh energy and impetus into an Australian side that is more than a little battered and bruised.
