Entertainer Rolf Harris has been charged with nine counts of indecent assault against children and four counts of making indecent images of a child.

Harris, 83, was arrested in November under Operation Yewtree, the inquiry set up in the wake of the Jimmy Savile sex scandal.

He has now been charged with six offences of indecent assault relating to a girl aged between 15 and 16 from 1980 to 1981 and three further indecent assault charges involving a 14-year-old girl in 1986.

He has also been charged with four offences of making an indecent image of child between March and July 2012.

Harris will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 23 September to face the charges.

Alison Saunders, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said: "Having completed our review, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Harris to be charged with nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of a child.

"The alleged indecent assaults date from 1980 to 1986 and relate to two complainants aged 14 and 15 at the time of the alleged offending."

Fourteen people have been arrested under Operation Yewtree which was set up by Scotland Yard to investigate alleged sexual offences by Savile and others.

Harris, DJ Dave Lee Travis, PR guru Max Clifford and former BBC chauffeur David Smith are the only ones to have been charged with sex offences.

Other high-profile names who have been arrested include Freddie Starr and Gary Glitter. Comedian Jim Davidson was recently told he will face no further action and released following his arrest.
