Craigslist has a reputation for selling strange items, but the latest trend may be the weirdest yet, as several used positive pregnancy tests have recently been put up for sale.

A report in The Daily Dot says a pregnant woman from New York will take fresh tests for $25 (£16) each. Her ad reads: "I am selling positive pregnancy tests! Ever Since I became pregnant, I have been asked numerous times for a positive test, so I decided to start charging for it! I will take the test the same day you want to pick it up! I don't care what you use it for, not my business!"

A second ad, listed by an expectant mother from New Jersey, reads: "Wanna get your boyfriend to finally pop the question? Play a trick on mom, dad or one of your friends?"

And a third writes: "I'm pregnant and will sell you my positive pregnancy test for $20 (£12.91). I don't care what you need them for."

A report in Mail Online claims the buyers range from a woman who wants to make a video on teen pregnancy to another who wants to scare her cheating boyfriend. The latter is from Texas and has two children with her boyfriend of five years. Unfortunately, the boyfriend confessed to cheating on her with his partner and said she was now pregnant as well.

"We had been trying for another [baby]," she writes. "He texted and said he isn't sure who he wants to be with and I think I handled it well for what a cheating lying dog he is. I would like the last laugh out of this. I will give some girl $40."

For some women, this could turn pregnancy into a lucrative business: a single pregnancy testing kit costs less than $10.
