American supermodel Kendra Spears has become a princess after getting married to Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the eldest son of one of the richest men in the world, the Aga Khan.

The 25-year-old beauty - who has been dubbed the next Cindy Crawford, thanks to her distinctive upper-lip mole - tied the knot with the 41-year-old royal in a traditional Muslim ceremony - attended by just family and close friends - at Château de Bellerive on the shores of Lake Geneva.

As his father is the spiritual leader of the Shia denomination of Nizari Ismailism, Spears converted to Islamism ahead of the nuptials.

For her big day the bride choose a traditional sari in ivory and gold, teamed with delicate jewellery, nude sandals and a soft chignon.

The groom wore an ivy suit with gold detailing.

Seattle-born Spears earned her BA in sociology from the University of Washington before making her catwalk debut in September 2008 during New York Fashion Week. She was still wearing braces on her teeth at the time.

She has appeared in campaigns for Diane von Furstenberg and Prada and graced the runways of Chanel, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani and Gucci.

Her future husband studied in the US at Brown University and at the Navarra Business School in Barcelona. He follows in the footsteps of his younger brother, Prince Hussain, who married model Kristin White in 2006.

The newlyweds announced their engagement in April.

"Thank you all for the kind tweets! We're very excited!" Spears responded to her 7,200 followers on Twitter.
