American fashion model/actress Dakota Johnson, daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, has been confirmed to play the role of Anastasia Steele in the film version of the best-selling erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

The 56-year-old Working Girl actress took to Twitter to share her excitement on daughter's casting.

"My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades!!! Look out world! Here she comes!!! #proudmama," she tweeted.

The 23-year-old made her film debut in 1999 along with Griffith in Crazy in Alabama. She was also noticed for supporting roles in The Five Year Engagement and The Social Network (opposite Justin Timberlake).

Johnson, who is best known for her lead role in the Fox sitcom Ben and Kate, told USA TODAY last year that she always knew she wanted to be an actor.

"This is my passion. This is my job. I love it more than anything," she said, "I'm so happy when I'm working. I love doing improv. I love comedy. I have always felt this way, even when I was really young. I'd watch my parents work and think, yeah, I'm going to do that. It wasn't even a thing. It's the only thing I know how to do."

"I'm more of a person who goes with the flow of things," she said of her personal life, "I have a boyfriend that I've been with for a while. I've only been in long-term relationships. I've never really dated myself."

It was also revealed that Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Humman will play the role of Christian Grey in the film.
