Charlie Hunnam who bagged the lead role as Christian Grey in the film version of EL James's best-selling erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, is reportedly receiving lingerie on his doorstep by fans.

According to Daily Star, Hunnam's neighbours witnessed fans leaving inner garments on his doorknob.

"We've seen frilly knickers, bras and even stockings left at his door by some fans of the book as they try to get his attention," a neighbor of the Sons of Anarchy star in Los Angeles said, "It has been very odd. I've never seen anything quite like it."

In the film, the 33-year-old actor will be seen opposite Dakota Johnson, daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, Dakota Johnson, as Anastasia Steele.

The book's hard core fans had expressed disappointment at the casting and even submitted an online petition to replace them with Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel.

Film's producer Dana Brunetti had taken to Twitter soon after the cast announcement.

"There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc," he wrote, adding, "So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."

It was previously revealed that the Fifty Shades of Grey film will release in the United States on 1 July next year. British visual artist and film-maker Sam Taylor-Johnson will be directing a script written by Kelly Marcel. Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca (producers of Oscar-winning The Social Network) will work behind the scenes.
