Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has encouraged Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic to join him in Serie A.

The 32-year-old is in the last year of his current contract and although United boss David Moyes has indicated the Serbian will be rewarded with a new deal, the defender has been once again linked with a move to Italy.

Tevez, who played alongside Vidic for two seasons before leaving Old Trafford under controversial circumstances, left the Premier League this summer and has enjoyed a respectable start to life in Italy, hitting three goals in seven games for Antonio Conte's side.

And the Argentina international would like to see his former teammate join him, believing the defender has the perfect attributes to succeed in Italy's top flight.

"He is very strong, a really good defender," Tevez told Tuttosport. "I played with him and against him, when I moved to Manchester City. Of course he'd be very suitable for the Italian championship."

Vidic, who arrived at Old Trafford from Spartak Moscow in 2006, has had recent seasons largely interrupted by injury. The skipper was limited to just six appearances in the 2011/12 due to a severe cruciate ligament injury, and required further surgery last season after struggling with a separate knee issue.

The Serbian returned for the second half of last season and after recovering from a case of sciatica during United's pre-season has pleased Moyes who would like the defender to extend his stay at the club.

"Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja are two top centre halves," Moyes said last month. "Vida is probably the best centre half I have ever worked with. He is that good, he really is.

"Rio has really impressed with how fit he has been. He has not missed a day's training since we have been back.

"If you took away the City game (a 4-1 for United) you are finding it hard to pick faults in any of them. I didn't know about Vida's contract. I have not looked into it yet. I am sure the chief executive and the club will be doing that.

"He's not old. He is a really top centre half. The best I have worked with, that's for sure."
