Christian Eriksen
Christian Eriksen is not as badly injured as initially thought, Tottenham have confirmed.

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a big boost over Christian Eriksen's ankle injury with the club confirming the playmaker won't be out of action for as long as originally expected.

Eriksen limped off the pitch in the first half of Denmark's friendly with Norway on Friday night and the worst was feared as coach Morten Olsen claimed he could be out of action for six weeks of more.

Those claims increased to three months today with a return date believed to be around February for the 21 year old. But Tottenham have now released a statement to the contrary, insisting that Eriksen will return to action sooner than initially though.

"Following an MRI scan on Monday it has been determined that Christian Eriksen suffered a sprain of the lateral ankle ligaments playing for Denmark against Norway on Friday," the statement read.

"The scan showed no sign of ruptured ligaments which will result in a shorter period of recovery for the attacking midfielder."

With this news Eriksen will likely be on the sidelines for less than a month and could return when Tottenham take on Liverpool on 15 December.

Having made his move to White Hart Lane in the final days of the summer transfer window Eriksen would have been particularly disappointed to find himself unavailable for selection as he looked to prove himself to Andre Villas-Boas.

And with the manager having a wide range of options to replace the attacking midfielder it will certainly be tough to win his place back when he does make a recovery from injury.

But the fact that he can return within a month, though Tottenham haven't officially put a return date on the budding star, will certainly lift his spirits as he begins rehabilitation.
