Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the Reds made "too many errors" during their 3-1 defeat against Hull City at KC Stadium.

Jake Livermore opened the scoring for Hull before the Reds skipper Steven Gerrard equalised seven minutes later before the half- hour mark. David Meyler's second-half goal followed by Martin Skrtel's own goal saw the Anfield outfit suffer a defeat away from home.

The Merseyside club failed to reduce the gap at the top of the table and the defeat over the Tigers has seen Liverpool sit in the fourth place with 24 points, trailing league leaders Arsenal by seven points.

"It's an understatement to say it was disappointing. It was very disappointing. Today hurts us all and we just never got near our level," Rodgers explained.

"We went into the game with confidence and belief, but we made too many mistakes. We are all very disappointed. We lacked quality with the ball. We never created enough or kept the ball long enough in order to move them about."

"In the last two games we have conceded six goals. We have to be much, much better in that and we have to return to that on Wednesday night at home to Norwich," he added.

Liverpool were without their star player Daniel Sturridge after the striker suffered an ankle ligament injury during the training session. The England international will be out of action for eight weeks while Philippe Coutinho was lacking match fitness.

However, the Brazilian came on as a substitute but the former Inter Milan midfielder's efforts were not enough for Liverpool to avoid their first-ever defeat to the Tigers.

"There's no doubt our quality in our squad, with all due respect, isn't big enough to cope with two big players like that missing. We still have some very good players," Liverpool manager said.

"Obviously, Daniel could be out for up to eight weeks with his ankle problem. Philippe hasn't trained all week. He has a high ankle strain and had some injections to get on the bench. He did very well to get on the field."

"You take those two out... they are two very, very good players, who have been very efficient for us. This period now will test us. For the players who come in, it will be a great opportunity to stake their place in the team and hopefully we can get back to winning games," Rodgers concluded.
