It was intended to be a sexy performance for one lucky fan but the lap dance I Bet singer Ciara gave while on stage recently went horribly wrong.

The Jackie hitmaker invited a male fan to join her in front of the audience at Atlanta's Center Stage Theatre, but the racy lap dance resulted in the man getting kicked in the face.

In a video clip from the show, the 29-year-old can be seen trying to do a back flip on to the fan however, her legs could not quite reach around his head and she ended up making contact with his face twice.

Brushing over social media reactions to the funny incident, Ciara tweeted after the show in her hometown:

The Body Party singer is touring around North America in promotion of her new album, Jackie, which has reached number 17 on the US Billboard 200 chart after selling 25,000 copies in its first week.

In an interview with The Guardian, the singer addressed the ongoing comparisons between herself and other pop stars like Rihanna and Beyonce.

When pressed on why she has not become a "household name" despite her many years of success, Ciara admitted: "You know what I think? Everything's about timing. I've had records just as big as those artists, I've had number one songs around the world. My biggest competition is me."

Referring to music's power couple, Ciara replied: "There's no doubt in my mind how high up this train can go. I faced those challenges. I don't see myself beneath Beyonce and Jay Z; I don't see myself above them. I'm in my own world, hungry to grow."

Jackie is the first record the Like A Boy singer has released since giving birth to her son Future Zahir in May 2014 and features collaborations with Pitbull and Missy Elliott.
