Manchester United have been boosted in their ongoing pursuit of signing Antoine Griezmann after the Atletico Madridstar accepted personal terms with the Red Devils.

According to The Sun, the France international is Jose Mourinho's priority target in the summer transfer window. United are ready to offer him a five-year deal with a weekly wage of £280,000-a-week ($360,565 per week), which has been agreed by the striker.

Diego Simeone saw his side suffer a 3-0 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Santiago Bernabeu. With Atletico failing to score the much needed away goal, they have an uphill task to make it to the final of the Europe's elite club competition.

The 20-time English champions are currently placed fifth in the table with 65 points from 34 games, trailing fourth place Manchester City by a point. United face Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-final. Mourinho's side can qualify for the next season's Champions League if they win the European competition or finish in the top four.

Griezmann had reservations about joining United as he was concerned over the English club's participation in the Champions League. However, the 26-year-old has been given assurances about the other summer signings that will see the Red Devils challenge for silverware next season.

The attacker has a release clause of £89m ($115m) and Atletico wants United to pay the transfer fee in one go. The total cost of the transfer including the transfer fee, wages and bonuses could exceed £170m ($219m).

Mourinho wants to secure the signature of Griezmann early in the transfer window as he remains hopeful that the Frenchman will available for the pre-season's first training session on 9 July.

His agent Eric Olhats has already confirmed interest from five clubs for the striker's signature. Apart from United, the Red Devils' derby rivals Manchester City, Premier League leaders Chelsea, Real and Barcelona are all keen on signing Griezmann. However, Olhats revealed that it is the Old Trafford club that are ahead of the other clubs in signing his client.

Atletico are set to part ways with their star player in the summer transfer window. The Spanish capital club have identified Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez and Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette as a possible replacement for Griezmann.

The Chilean international will have one year left on his Emirates contract after the end of the season. He has already decided against signing a new deal at Arsenal and the Gunners could sanction his sail in the summer. If Atletico manage to sign Sanchez, that would in return help United in completing a marquee signing of Griezmann for the next season.
