Real Madrid will look to return to winning ways when they make the short trip to the Vicente Calderon to face Atletico Madrid in the 211th Madrid derby on 4 October.

Where to watch live

Kick-off is set for 7.30pm BST. The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 1 HD.

Overview

Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid have endured a miserable week, with a 1-0 loss at Villarreal compounded by a home defeat to Benfica in the Champions League in midweek. The capital side are fifth in the La Liga standings, four points behind early pace-setters Villarreal, and two behind their great rivals Real.

Simeone has no fresh injury concerns. Atletico midfielder Koke has returned to training after recovering from a muscle injury and could start.

Real Madrid relinquished the top spot in La Liga with a disappointing goalless draw at Malaga, but bounced back in midweek with a straightforward 2-0 victory over Malmo in the Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo needs one goal to overtake Raul and become the club's outright record goalscorer.

Rafael Benitez has Gareth Bale available again after the Wales international recovered from a calf injury. Sergio Ramos (shoulder) also returns, but Pepe, Danilo and James Rodriguez are all out.

What managers say

Diego Simeone: "It was a great game [against Benfica] and our opponents did very well in defence. We had chances to stretch our lead in the first half, but it wasn't to be. We need to focus on our finishing. It's obviously a bad result, but we always had the right attitude.

Rafael Benitez: "The team was a lot better [against Malmo] than against Malaga. We had 75 percent possession. We could have avoided some occasions where we gave the ball away, but those are the words of a coach that will never be happy. They started to press high and sent a lot of long balls. Anything could have happened, so it was important to get the second goal."
