Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Serena Williams have secured their places in the third round at the Australian Open. Defending champion Djokovic secured a straight sets victory over Frenchman Quentin Halys.
The Serbian breezed through his first two sets but was met by some resistance in the third from his 19-year-old opponent, needing a tie-break to seal a 6-1 6-2 7-6 (7-3) win.
Federer meanwhile reached the third round of the competition for the 17th consecutive year after clinching his 299th major victory, over Alexandr Dolgopolov. His 6-3 7-5 6-1 win puts him in a third-round meeting with Grigor Dimitrov, who secured a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7- 5 victor over Marco Trungelliti.
Seventh seed Kei Nishikori also advanced after victory over Austin Krajicek, joining Tomas Berdych, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Marin Cilic in the next round.
Defending champion Williams, meanwhile, eased to a 6-1 6-2 victory over No. 90-ranked Hsieh Su-wei but-two time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was eliminated after a shock 6-4 6-4 defeat to Daria Gavrlova of Australia.
Fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska also secured passage to the next round with 6-4 6-2 win over Canada's Eugenie Bouchard.
