Bachelor season 20
Ben Higgins proposed to Bushnell with a Neil Lane diamond engagement ring worth $100,000 ABC

Bachelor Ben Higgins, 26, was unsure of who he would choose as his life partner from the two finalists of the reality show as he himself had admitted that he was still in love with both Lauren Bushnell, 25, and JoJo Fletcher, 24. Higgins had flown his parents down to Jamaica for the season finale.

His mother said: "To know that Ben could possibly be in love with two women is really disturbing to me."

Before the finale, Higgins went on a last date with Bushnell, but when he left her, he said: "No matter what happens, you've made me a better person." These words created uncertainty as to who Higgins would choose between the two women. However, before the finale, Higgins finally made up his mind.

In the finale, Higgins proposed to Bushnell leaving Fletcher heartbroken but she was happy for the couple. Higgins proposed to Bushnell with a Neil Lane diamond engagement ring worth $100,000 (£70000).

But before Higgins proposed to Bushnell, he called her father, who gave his blessings. "The reason I'm calling is that I love your daughter a lot and I wish I could have told you that when I was in Portland, [Oregon]. But I am so confident, so excited, and I am ready to try and make your daughter the happiest woman in the world, forever," Higgins told Bushnell's father. "And I would like to ask you for your daughter's hand in marriage."

Higgins told Bushnell at the finale: "I want to wake up every morning and kiss you on the face. I want to go to bed at night and know that in the morning, I'm gonna wake up to the most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on. My desire from here on out is to live for you, commit to you, love you, hold you, kiss you a lot. Lauren, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Lauren, will you marry me? ... You're my person."

"I came into this honestly feeling unlovable. Like I couldn't be loved or that I was never gonna find that person to love me fully. And then we go through this experience. It's been a journey that's full of goodbyes. Lauren, I never want to say goodbye to you," he said.

Meanwhile, Fletcher, who is a real estate developer from Dallas, Texas, has been chosen for The Bachelorette season 12, where she will have her pick of eligible bachelors. The new season premieres on 23 May.
