The stars of television arrived in all their finery at the Royal Festival Hall in London for the TV BAFTAS 2017 on Sunday (14 May) night.

Taking to the red carpet Gillian Anderson, Eleanor Tomlinson and Holly Willoughby were among the stars braving downpours as they displayed their sartorial style on the red carpet.

And as they prepared to make an entrance, the stars took to Twitter to capture the moment.

All eyes were on Gillian Anderson who arrived on crutches but still managed to look effortlessly elegant as she posed for the photographers.

With Strictly Come Dancing leading the 2017 TV BAFTA nominations with three nods, hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly were already in celebratory mood as they stopped for a selfie with Mary Berry.

This Morning's Holly Willoughby channeled old Hollywood in a baby blue Roland Mouret gown with an asymmetric strapless neckline while veteran star Dame Joan Collins sparkled in a shimmering silver gown.

Saturday Night TakeAway stars Ant and Dec were spotted taking cover after a sudden deluge while Eastenders star Danny Dyer made his first public appearance since taking a break from the spotlight.

TV personality Katie Piper and Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt shared their pre-Bafta preparations en route to the event.

Crown star Matt Smith and Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch shared a warm hug as they bumped into one another on the red carpet.

And its a big night for Joanna Lumley who is to be honoured with the prestigious Bafta Fellowship.

Recalling her surprise on hearing she was to be a recipient of the accolade The Absolutely Fabulous star told the BBC: "It's the most extraordinary thing, you can't really believe the letter when it arrives, I had to read it twice, then read it a third time to check if they really meant me ... and then I felt honoured, humbled and absolutely shocked."

Taking over from Graham Norton, former Bake-Off star Sue Perkins takes over the reins as the host of The British Academy Television Awards while surprise guest presenters include Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr and Sex and the City star Kim Cattrell.

The BAFTAS air on BBC1 at 8pm.
