Overview

Bangladesh come into this game following their comfortable victory over Nepal in their second Group A fixture. The associate nation lost five wickets in the opening innings but scored 126 runs but the hosts successfully completed the chase within 16 overs with eight wickets in hand.

Al-Amin Hossain was highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh with two, while Farhad Reza and Mashrafe Mortaza took one each. Mushfiqur Rahim took the credit for one dismissal as he managed to prevent Sharad Vesawkar from completing his run.

The opening pair of Tamim Iqbal (30) and Anamul Haque started the chase brightly registering a partnership of 63 runs for the first wicket before the former's dismissal in the eighth over. Haque (42) followed suit in the 11th over with 79 runs on the board as Sagar Pun and wicketkeeper Subash Khakurel foiled his attempted run.

Nevertheless, Bangladesh scored 132 runs in total with Sabbir Rahman (21) and Shakib Al Hasan (37) securing the victory.

On the other hand, Hong Kong are yet to win a single match and succumbed to their second successive defeat in the tournament against Afghanistan on Tuesday. Jamie Atkinson's side set a target of 154 runs for their opponents to chase in 20 overs but started the game slowly.

Irfan Ahmed (0) was dismissed in the first ball of the innings but Wakas Barkat and Atkinson took control of the game. The skipper scored 31 runs before being caught leg before wicket by Hamza Hotak but Mark Chapman (38) then teamed up with the opener to help their team crawl past the 100-run mark.

Five wickets followed one after the other at regular intervals following Barkat's (32) dismissal with 102 runs on the board. Haseeb Amjad (7) and Aizaz Khan (1) were the unbeaten batsmen who managed to pull their team's score to 153.

Hong Kong bowlers got their first breakthrough via Tanwir Afzal who took Najeeb Tarakai's wicket in the third over. The second wicket fell after considerable time as Khan dismissed Asghar Stanikzai while the scoreboard read 69 for two in the 11th over.

The third casualty in the Afghan innings was Mohammad Shahzad; the opener's shot was caught by Ahmed at extra cover from Amjad's bowling.

But Shafiqullah (51) and Mohammad Nabi (6) saw to it that the Afghans left Hong Kong with no chance of progressing into the next round.

Hong Kong are currently at the bottom of the Group A table with zero points while Bangladesh lead with four points. A win for the hosts will surely secure their place in the super-10 while a defeat against the minnows may hamper their progress depending on their Net Run-Rate and the result between Afghanistan and Nepal.
