Two first-half goals from Croatian forward Ivica Olic helped Bayern Munich book a place in the Champions League semi-final by beating Marseille 2-0 at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern, who already had a 2-0 lead from the first leg, were always the favourites to progress to the next round and they did so with ease.

Olic, who netted a hat-trick against Lyon two years ago to send Bayern to the final, opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Franck Ribery found space down the right and squared the ball for Olic to score his first goal in two months.

The 32 year old got his second in the 37th minute after some smart work by Ribery opened up space for David Alaba and the Austrian sent in another cross for Olic to convert.

In fact, had it not been for the heroics of goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, the scoreline could have been bigger for Bayern and more embarrassing for Marseille.

Out of the French league title race and knocked out of the domestic cup by lower division opposition, Marseille's poor form has seen questions rising over the future of manager Didier Deschamps and this defeat will surely add fuel to those doubts.

Bayern will now host the first leg of their semi-final on 17 April, most likely against Real Madrid, who play APOEL on Wednesday with a 3-0 lead from the first leg.
