Hollywood star Ben Affleck has hit out at allegations that he is having an affair with his children's nanny as "complete garbage".

An article recently published in Us Weekly claimed the 42-year-old star, who split from wife Jennifer Garner in June, was secretly seeing Christine Ouzounian.

The tabloid claimed things heated up between the pair after she was hired to care for the children while the power-couple were undergoing a secret 10-month trial separation. "They would hang out without the kids. And they were very flirty," an insider told the publication.

Ouzounian, who takes care of Violet, Seraphina and Samuel, is said to have also confirmed the romance telling friends that "this is true love."

But Affleck has since slammed the reports as nothing but fabricated lies. "The story is complete garbage and full of lies. You shouldn't be able to hide behind 'blind sources' and attempt to destroy families going through a difficult time," his rep told New York Post's Page Six.

"The tabloid [Us Weekly] decided to construct stories in order to sell magazines. It's like story time in kindergarten. It's shameful and desperate."

Affleck and Garner announced their divorce in a joint statement on 30 June, a day after their 10th wedding anniversary.

"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce," the couple's decree read. "We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding."

Earlier in July, People magazine reported the estranged husband and wife are trying to remain cordial for the sake of their children and had even continued wearing their wedding rings.

"The kids are a big part of why they're still wearing them," an insider told the publication. "Ben plans to be there with them as much as he can. As difficult as it is, from what we've seen, it's pretty amicable."
