Beyoncé Knowles and husband Jay Z have reportedly chosen Oprah Winfrey to be godmother to their first child, Blue Ivy.

According to celebrity website MediaTakeOut.com, the power couple have selected the 57-year-old media mogul to be one of their daughter's godparents.

Rap star Jay Z has also asked his long-time friend Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith to be godfather to his princess.

An insider told the website that they wanted to bestow the honour of being a godparent to people who were not already related to them by blood.

Oprah, the richest black woman in the world, has become a close friend of the couple in recent years.

Beyoncé gave birth to her daughter on 7 January at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Just two days after the birth, which hit headlines across the globe, Jay-Z released Glory, a song dedicated to their child.
