Police continue to appeal for more information into the killing of Avtar and Carole Kolar West Midlands Police

A third arrest has been made over the murders of a Birmingham couple whose bodies were found in their home by their police officer son.

Avtar Kolar, 62, and his wife Carole, 58, were found by their son Jason, an officer with West Midlands Police, in their home in Handsworth Wood on 11 January.

Police have announced the arrest of a 37-year-old man in connection with the murders, the third arrest in the investigation.

Two men were arrested on 13 and 14 January. One was bailed pending further questioning and the second was released without charge.

Det Chief Supt Steve Hupp, head of the force's CID, said: "We are extremely encouraged by the response and the information being passed on to us. All information is treated in the strictest confidence."

Forensic investigations were continuing at the home of the couple, who had four children and eight grandchildren. Post mortem examination found they had both been killed by repeated blunt force trauma to the head.

A £10,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for information that leads to a conviction.
