Blackburn Rovers v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Ewood Park

Kick-off: 15.00 BST

Last season: Wolves 2 Blackburn 3, Blackburn 3 Wolves 0.

Blackburn battled to safety on the last day of last season after a 3-2 win at Molineux ensured they finished four points above the relegation zone, and the club's ambition seems clear after another mediocre summer in the transfer market.

Phil Jones was sold to Manchester United for £17m and captain Chris Samba has been continually linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham, while the only new arrivals have been David Goodwillie, Myles Anderson and Radosav Petrovic. Hardly the marquee signings Rovers fans imagined when club owners Venkys took over in January.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy meanwhile, can be reasonably confident of improving on last season's 17th placed finish.

The club have added Birmingham defender Roger Johnson for £7m and also signed Jamie O'Hara on a permanent deal after the former Tottenham midfielder spent a successful season on-loan last term.
