Cilic convincingly defeated world number 17 Tommy Robredo in straight sets in the third round, 6-4, 6-3. The 25-year-old Croatian is the first player to win 20 matches in 2014.

Meanwhile, Djokovic remained on track in the quest to win his third Indian Wells championship after defeating Alejandro Gonzalez in the third round. The world number two, who won this competition in 2008 and 2011, needed three sets to overcome the Colombian on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old stormed into 6-1 lead in the first set but lost the second set 3-6. However, there was no upset on the cards as the Serbian cruised to 6-1 victory in the deciding set to clinch the game.
