Djokovic has won the competition in 2008 and 2011. He would be hoping to win the BNP Paribas Open for the third time and a victory over the 25-year-old would see him get one step closer to the final.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez sealed a place in the third round after defeating Ivan Dodig in a thrilling encounter. The first set was won by the Colombian, 6-4, before losing the 2-6 in the second set. The third set went neck to neck as the outcome of the match was decided on the tie breaker.
Gonzalez managed to win it at the end as the victory over Dodig has seen him face Djokovic at Indian Wells on Tuesday.
Djokovic has never faced Gonzalez in either ATP events or the Grand Slam events in his career. It will be for the first time the two will face each other.
