Federer made it to the third round of the BNP Paribas Open after registering a victory over Paul-Henri Mathieu in the earlier round. The Swiss tennis star had a comfortably won the first set, winning it 6-2.
The second set between Federer and Mathieu went down to the wire as the outcome was decided by the tie breaker after the scores were level at 6-6. However, the former World No 1 came out victorious in the end, which saw him win the match.
Federer has won the competition four times in his career and he would be looking to extend his run. However, he can progress to the later rounds of the BNP Paribas Open by defeating his Russian opponent on Monday.
Tursunov made it to the third round of the competition after defeating Juan Monaco in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. The Russian faced tough competition from the Argentine, but Tursunov managed to come out victorious in the end.
Federer has a comfortable 3-0 lead over Tursunov in overall meetings. The pair have never met in a grand slam event.
