Liverpool full back Jon Flanagan won praise from an unexpected source following his side's 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur as Brazilian legend Cafu took to Twitter to highlight the full back's impressive performance.

21-year-old Flanagan provided another formidable performance as Brendan Rodgers' side moved two points clear at the top of the Premier League with just six games to be played.

The defender has made the left back slot his own this season while Jose Enrique has been side-lined with a long term injury. His assured performances have led to calls for him to be considered for Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad and have also won him a fan in the two-time World Cup winner who described the Liverpool defender as the "Red Cafu."

Flanagan made his 17th appearance of the season for the Reds as his side's added to Tim Sherwood's woes as he also chalked up his first assist of the campaign having scored against Tottenham at White Hart Lane in December.

Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace allowed Liverpool to move top of the league thanks to goals from Luis Suarez, a Younes Kaboul own goal, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

In their remaining games Liverpool also welcome Manchester City and Chelsea to Anfield in two fixtures that could firmly hand them the initiative in the Premier League title race.

With their title aspirations in their own hands, Rodgers is confident his side can handle the pressure.

"There are still a lot of points to play for and there will be points dropped by all teams before the end of the season," Rodgers was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"We don't feel pressure and we're very confident with how we play.

"The dream is for our supporters, they want to win the title. It has been a long time but it's not in my thinking. We just need to prepare and do well, and if we do that, we will win games."
