Police have issued CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to in connection with a hit-and-run in Brighton which seriously injured a 53-year-old. Andy Payne was thrown several feet in the air after a Fiat 500 drove into him at high speed Montague Place, Kemptown, on 14 January.

Officers had previously released shocking CCTV footage of the incident in a bid to capture the suspect who can be seen driving away while Payne lies on the ground. The car was later found in Madehurst Close, Brighton with fire damage.

Sussex Police have now issued images of the man seen buying lighter fluid from a shop who they believe may have a connection with the Fiat 500. Sergeant Dan Pitcher said: "We believe this man could be connected to the hit-and-run and has key information which would form part of our investigation. He bought the lighter fluid shortly after the collision. We are appealing to this man to come forward or anyone who knows who he is to come and speak to us."

A 31-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman, both from Brighton, have been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run. The man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, causing serious injury, attempting to pervert the course of justice and aggravated vehicle-taking. The woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice. Both suspects have been bailed until 3 April pending further enquiries.
