The Secularist of the Year award will be presented to journalist, author and political commentator Nick Cohen on Saturday in London.

The award, carrying £5,000, is given to someone who has contributed something significant to the cause of secularism.

Nick Cohen is currently working as a columnist for the Observer and Guardian. He has written several books including Cruel Britannia: Reports on the Sinister and the Preposterous, Pretty Straight Guys, What's Left? and Waiting for the Etonians: Reports from the Sickbed of Liberal England. His most current book is You Can't Read this Book.

In 2008, Nick Cohen was shortlisted for the George Orwell Prize for his book What's Left?
